Monday Mystery Movie: Will You Buy a Ticket to the Unknown?
I spotted this clever promotion at the Southampton Playhouse, the new independent theater in Southampton, NY. It’s a fun, creative way to bring a little excitement back to moviegoing.
Once a month, the Playhouse offers a first-run movie before opening night—but here’s the twist:
You won’t know what film you’re going to see. No trailer. No clues. Not even the staff knows.
Straight from their website:
“The curtain rises on a film no one sees coming. No title. No trailer. No clues. Just one thrilling night of movie magic—and you’re invited. Not even our staff knows what’s hitting the screen—the surprise is part of the experience.”
So much about going to the movies has become… predictable and a little boring. I love seeing theaters try new ways to reignite that spark—that feeling when the lights dim, the projector hums, and you settle in for something you didn’t see coming.
